de Regt, H. (*1950)

Trio for Reed Instruments
(Oboe, Klarinette, Fagott)

Hendrik de Regt was born July 5, 1950, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He studied piano and organ in his native town, and theory and composition with Piet Ketting, a pupil of Willem Pijper.

From the outset, de Regt's compositions have stressed melodic and polyphonic lines within a clear harmonic context. He is drawn to musical tradition and enjoys linking early musical forms with modern ones to create a stylistic synthesis.

For de Regt, the most important goal of a composition is the satisfaction of the performers and listeners derive from hearing the piece .In his opinion, a work should be understandable by each component of the interconnected triad of composer, performer and listener.

For this reason, he avoids extreme experiments in composition, because performers and listeners did not request for same, and strives for a style that is accessible to listeners.

De Regt composes a variety of vocal and instrumental music. In addition to the publications of Egge-Verlag, his music is available through Dorn Publications, Wehr's MusicHouse, and PRB Productions (United States); Donemus (The Netherlands); DMP and Lantro Music (Belgium).

Trio for Reed Instruments

This composition is a new version of two earlier trios, one composed for "Trio di Fiati" of oboist Cor Coppens and the second for "Trio A" in Arnhem/Netherlands. Both trios are performed and broadcasted with several Dutch broadcasting societies during the seventies of last century. The reason of a new version for a trio for reed instruments was the improvement and changing of ideas re composition with the composer, especially after his study with Piet Ketting.

The Trio for Reed Instruments is a challenging divertissement in a non-tonal chromatic idiom, the piece alternates demanding rhythmic configurations woven into a contrapuntal web with passages of melody and accompaniment for the three winds individually.
